Our Counselors

Cheryl Smith

Cheryl considers it a great privilege and joy to meet with women for counseling. She is passionate about serving women who are facing the difficult trials this life can bring. Through her own seasons of suffering, God faithfully brought Cheryl through these trials, teaching her to trust in His sovereignty and to rest in His steadfast love.

 

Cheryl is a certified biblical counselor through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and has worked extensively for the last 34 years with people facing addictions, depression, anxiety, relational conflict, grief, and deep suffering. Cheryl has also led several women’s conferences addressing a variety of issues related to womanhood and the application of God’s Word to everyday life.

 

Cheryl has been married to her husband, Joey Smith, for 32 years. Joey serves as the youth pastor at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and is pursuing biblical counseling certification. Cheryl enjoys helping women apply Scripture to life’s challenges in a Christ-centered manner. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her adult children and playing pickleball and golf with her husband.

Joey Smith has a deep passion for helping men grow in their faith and walk faithfully with the Lord in every area of life. He desires to come alongside men with the truth of God’s Word, offering biblical hope, encouragement, and practical guidance rooted in Scripture.
 

Joey has completed the Fundamental Training Course with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). He serves as both the youth pastor and an elder at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, where he is committed to shepherding and discipling others for God’s glory.
 

In addition to his church ministry, Joey works as the Plant Manager at Temco of the Upstate, a manufacturing company in Anderson, South Carolina. Through his leadership in the workplace, Joey has found many meaningful opportunities to apply what he has learned in biblical counseling to the lives of the men he works with, encouraging Christ-centered thinking, personal responsibility, and spiritual growth.
 

Joey is the husband of Cheryl Smith and the father of three children. He enjoys reading and studying, spending time with his family, going to the beach, playing golf, and taking day trips with his wife. He is also a devoted Clemson fan.

Michael Shafran

Michael has been a pastor for over 15 years and in education for over 25 years. He holds a Master of Divinity from Capital Bible Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

 

He has counseling training under CCEF School of Biblical Counseling and through ACBC. He knows life can be hard with many sins, sorrows, and sufferings. He believes that the Lord meets us in our brokenness, that the gospel is our hope, and that a joyful relationship with Christ brings healing to the brokenhearted. He seeks to walk alongside those in need of grace. He especially seeks to help those with anxiety, OCD, anger, parenting, and spiritual issues, among other areas.

 

Michael is originally from Pittsburgh and is an avid Steelers fan. He loves coffee, working outside, and all things ‘80s. He lived and ministered in Maryland and currently lives in Easley, SC.
